Travel-Tips and Gear

General about Safety

remember when you travel, safety should always be your most 1st priority, even before your gear.

me i had a accitend once with a expensive product from a french company. simply because their sole of their shoe, have some problems with certains undergroud. i slipped out and fell on my back with my whole heavy gear and was bed riden for one week. since then i always look out for a sole on the shoes with VIBRAM soles, even they cost a bit more. that bit is even just a small amount more than thee company brand soles.

RAINGEAR AND JACKETS

About raingear and jackets. dont just fall for a expensive brand and think its good because its expensive. if you are a whole day in the rain you will recognize and be happy for the best gear. its not about the price or name its about the quality.

there is two aspects on on modern raingear, waterproof and breath-ability

Waterproof:

as sample 10'000 mm thats a good value already, but could be double too or much less. than higher than better.

if its combined with breath-ablility the highest i had seen was 20'000 mm.

Breath-ability:

There is 2 Norms. Ret-Value (Resistance to Evaporating Heat Transfer) and MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate). While its seems the last is the most common.

MVTR Value of Breathablity 5'000 g/m2/24h thats definitefely not a good value yet. the highest value i had seen was 40'000 g/m2/24h.

if the outer textile part get wet and soaked already. it means no more breathability. So make sure you spray it on a regular basic for a reproofing. Meanwhile there is a new product on the market that have no textile on the top, but they dont give a MVTR value
